Comparing ChatGPT and Jasper: Best AI Tool For Marketers?

ChatGPT vs Jasper Blog Post Banner Image

AI is changing the world.

When ChatGPT launched in November of 2022 the world was not ready for it.

Now every company is racing to launch AI features in their product, many of them using the technology behind ChatGPT to power their LLMS (large learning models).

I’ve spent my entire career as a growth marketer writing content to help software companies like Loom and Mailgun grow to billion dollar valuations.

AI is an incredible new tool in a marketer’s toolkit so I wanted to compare two top options: ChatGPT and Jasper.

I’ve used both extensively in my full time job as a growth marketer and now as a solopreneur and I’ll give you my honest opinions about both.

Why should you trust me?

Hey, I’m Nick.

I’m a professional growth marketer that has helped companies like Loom and Mailgun reach billion dollar valuations.

This website is in my name because I stand by its content.

Everything you read here is written by me based on my real experiences.

I’m looking for the best AI tool for marketers because I am one and I want to produce more content using the best tools available today.

I’m sharing everything on my website and in my newsletter which you can subscribe to below.

What is ChatGPT

ChatGPT was the first conversational generative AI on the marketing.

Now they have their own iPhone app so you can access it anywhere.

Simply ask the AI a question and it’ll generate a response for you based on it’s training data including billions of web pages it’s crawled.

Unlike other AI writing platforms, ChatGPT doesn’t require you to input specific keywords or prompts.

Instead, it uses its advanced neural network to understand the context and generate content that matches your preferences.

You can create high-quality content without having to spend hours researching and writing, and it’s totally free.

Key Features of ChatGPT

ChatGPT comes packed with a range of features that make it stand out from other AI writing tools. Here are some of the key features:

  • Customized content creation: ChatGPT allows you to create content based on genre, tone, word count, and other parameters. This means that you can create content that matches your brand’s voice and style.
  • Ability to fine-tune the output: With ChatGPT, you can fine-tune the output and generate multiple variations of the same content. This allows you to choose the best version that matches your needs.
  • Training mode: ChatGPT has a training mode that helps you teach the tool your writing style and improve its accuracy and fluency. This means that over time, ChatGPT will become more accurate and generate content that matches your preferences.
  • Collaboration tools: ChatGPT has collaboration tools that allow multiple users to work on the same content simultaneously. This means that you can collaborate with your team members or clients to create high-quality content.

Pricing and Plans

ChatGPT has two pricing options:

  1. Free
  2. $20/month

The free version is limited to GPT3.5 which is an older and faster model.

Free users can also be throttled or kicked off the platform when usage is high, so if you need ChatGPT to do your job well then consider upgrading to a paid plan.

The $20/month is an absurdly low price to pay for the most innovative technology of our time.

It also gives you access to GPT4 which is significantly better than GPT3.5, albeit a little slower in generating responses.

What is Jasper.ai?

Jasper is an AI writer and AI art generator that helps you create blog posts, marketing copy, and AI-generated images fast.

Jasper has over 3,000 reviews, including 1,200 reviews on G2 for an average rating of 4.5.

In October 2022 Jasper raised a $125 million Series A fundraising round for a total valuation of over $1.5B.

Jasper Products

Jasper has many different products:

  • Jasper Chat (most similar to ChatGPT)
  • Jasper API (so companies can build AI into their products)
  • Art (to generate images)
  • Brand Voice (to teach the AI your brand voice)
  • and more

ChatGPT vs Jasper: Key Differences

What is ChatGPT image

ChatGPT and Jasper are two popular generative AI algorithms.

They’re trained on different datasets and have different business models.

Jasper started as a tool called Jarvis focused on creating blog content for marketers.

They were the first major AI content creation tool on the market before ChatGPT launched.

ChatGPT launched in November 2022 and started an AI revolution tha saw every company rushing to build AI into their products.

Language Model Architecture

Jasper is powered by the technology behind ChatGPT, GPT 3.5, so they have a similar foundation.

Jasper is very open about the fact that it’s powered by OpenAI’s tools. However, GPT 3.5 isn’t the only model that Jasper sources from.

They also use other models like Neo X, T5, Bloom.

Jasper positions itself as a tool for sales people and marketers, whereas OpenAI can be used by anyone.

So the language models are both the exact same and slightly different, depending on which model Jasper is using.

Pricing

Jasper Pricing

Jasper has two pricing tiers:

  • Creator: $49/month
  • Teams: $125/month

They offer a 7-day free trial but you must enter your credit card and remember to cancel before the trial is up.

The plans are very straightforward.

The Creator plan is fine for most people

And if you’re on a team then get the Teams plan. Easy.

I’ve been playing around with Jasper the last few weeks and here’s some of my favorite features.

Using Jasper To Create Content

Jasper Content Creation Screen

After you’ve paid for Jasper you’re dropped into a dashboard with a big button that says Create New Content.

Clicking that opens the menu I screenshot above, asking if you want to creat a long document, an art image, use a template, or write a blog post.

Here' what happens when you select those options.

Generative Art

Jasper Robot Image I generated

I wanted to create an AI image for this blog post, so I played around with Jasper’s generative art tool.

A neat feature is their enhance prompt button.

After you write a prompt, you can click enhance and Jasper makes your prompt better.

You can see the difference between what I wrote and what the enhanced version was.

Sadly the images didn’t come out how the prompt described them.

I wanted a robot eating ramen noodles with moody background and I didn’t really get it.

Here’s the final version after some tweaking.

Generative Text

Jasper blog content about Jasper vs ChatGPT

Why not ask Jasper to write part of this blog post?

Great idea right? Wrong.

Jasper doesn’t understand it’s own product when you reference it as Jasper.ai, but it does undestand the product when you use the old name, Jarvis.ai.

This is likely due to the age of the training data available in ChatGPT and the other models used.

Jasper also doesn’t understan what ChatGPT is, it thinks ChatGPT is a chatbot for customer support people.

I mean, kinda? But no.

As hilarious as an AI not understanding it’s own tools is, this is an outlier case.

I asked it to write a different post on something more basic: a blog post about professional goals

And the output came back fine.

Professional Goals Jasper Prompt

Conclusion

ChatGPT and Jasper are two AI writing tools available to marketers today.

ChatGPT is free unless you want access to their more powerful model, GPT 4.

Jasper is more expensive but has better tools for marketers, including generative art, a chrome extension, and better templates and integrations.

As a marketer I prefer ChatGPT and I pay the $20/month for their upgraded account.

Jasper is a nice tool but $50/month is a little expensive for me when it uses the same technology as ChatGPT.

I don’t see why marketers would choose Jasper over ChatGPT right now.
